похуй (pokhuy)

What it means

1. 1.

   Don't care in the slightest. The construction is impersonal — мне похуй, 'to me it is [that word]' — and expresses a refusal to be bothered rather than mere indifference.

2. 2.

   Also an attitude rather than a reaction: жить похуй describes someone who has stopped caring what anyone thinks, which in some circles is a compliment.

Examples with translations

• Мне похуй, что они думают.

  I couldn't give a fuck what they think.

• Да ему на всё похуй.

  He doesn't give a damn about anything.

  Note: The polite version swaps in пофиг or всё равно and is what you say in front of anyone's parents.

Where it comes from

The preposition по plus the mat root, on the model of по барабану and по фигу — a whole family of 'it's all the same to me' expressions built from a preposition and a noun of decreasing rudeness.
