   A hangout: the group of people and the occasion at once. '¿Y el coro?' asks both where everyone is and what is happening tonight.

   A crowd of friends considered as a unit — 'mi coro' is my circle, closer to 'my people' than to 'my mates'.

Where it comes from

From coro, a choir: a group of people making noise together. The extension to social gatherings is Dominican and Puerto Rican; the Dominican use of it for the event itself, rather than only the group, is the more recent development.
