   A hangover, always in the fixed phrase с бодуна — 'hungover'. The plain noun похмелье is the neutral term; бодун is what you actually say the morning after.

   Strictly colloquial and slightly comic in tone, which is why it survives: it lets you admit to the state without sounding sorry for yourself.

Where it comes from

From бодать 'to butt with the horns', the hangover imagined as something that headbutts you. The form is fixed in the genitive: nobody says a nominative бодун on its own.
